“In the year 1990 the Bronx is officially declared No Man’s Land. The authorities give up all attempts to restore law and order. From then on the area is ruled by the Riders”.
This is a highly entertaining Italian b-actioner directed by the legendary Enzo G. Castellari.
The cast is very good: Mark Gregory, Fred Williamson, Vic Morrow, Joshua Siclair, Stefania Girolami, Christopher Connelly, John Sinclair, George Eastman, Betty Dessy and Rocco Lerro.
Mark Gregory as Trash and the Riders
Mark Gregory looks like a rock star in his feature film debut. He was spotted by director Enzo G. Castellari at a gym they both frequented.
I love all the various gangs in this movie. The Riders, the Scavengers, The Zombies, the Tigers... With all these different gangs the movie reminds of the classic The Warriors (1979) and there´s a little Escape from New York (1981) in it too.
There´s a little plot too but most of the time the guys just wander around the ruined Bronx streets. I don´t know what they eat and how they get the food and the gasoline but who cares
I also loved the rockin´ soundtrack composed by Walter Rizzati.
In the end, there´s really not that much action in the film but you just gotta love the atmosphere and the attitude these early 80s Italian movies have.
"Several years after the events of 1990: The Bronx Warriors, Trash, former leader of the Riders gang is now a cynical loner, remaining in the impoverished, lawless wasteland of the Bronx and trading in stolen ammunition. The General Construction (GC) Corporation, led by President Clark, wish to tear down the Bronx to turn it into “the city of the future”. To do this they need to clear the current population from the area and have employed expelled prison warden Floyd Wangler and a private squad of Disinfestors to burn, shoot and gas those that will not leave willingly." (Wikipedia)
This is a good Bronx Warriors sequel directed again by Enzo G. Castellari. The movie stars Mark Gregory, Henry Silva, Antonio Sabato, Giancarlo Prete, Valeria D'Obici, Ennio Girolami, Paolo Malco, Alessandro Prete and Massimo Vanni.
Trash in action
It was awesome to see this again. Escape from the Bronx is one of the first VHS films i saw back in the mid 80s.
Henry Silva gives a great performance as the vicious leader of the Disinfestation Annihilation Squad DAS. I also liked Antonio Sabato very much, such a funny fella.
Good action, cool explosions and awesome early 80s Italian b-action feel.
