The movie was filmed in part at Sunset Foods Northbrook, on Cherry Lane in "downtown" Northbrook, Illinois and The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, IL. [Thanks to Sue]
Salem Lane Village in New England (a small sub-division between Evanston and Skokie) was the location for the Briggs' house (that's Jake's house). All of the house exterior shots are an actual house in Salem Village [Thanks to Robyn]
The neighborhood used in the shot is known as "New England Village." It is located in Skokie, Illinois, and many of the houses used in the shoot remain in remarkably the same condition as seen in the shoot. The "Village" is a circular neighborhood, and once you get to the far end, you will recognize the area instantly. I was 4 when this was shot, and I still live there today. [Thanks to David Firestone]
